This picture has been making it's way around the web. While it certainly looks bad there is no way to know what the circumstances are behind it. Still, when there are a hundred cameras around there is a pretty good chance your picture will be taken... and only the bad ones make the press.

I also think this a very powerful picture. You can see the fear and frustration on her face.

HOW WE SEE ANIMALS

It's amazing how we can show such compassion and care for animals that we will often risk our own lives to save them or make their lives better. The first picture is such an example; this man is putting himself in danger to rescue the dog. But equally so we often see such cruelty (even though it may not be intended) we it comes to animals. The bottom picture is kind of sad but when I saw it, I thought it made a good hard hitting point. The bottom photo could illustrate the same apathy for the suffering of humans... we often ignore what is upsetting or what we can't change. There are certainly many other more harsh examples that I could have shown but this is not that kind of web site.

AEROGEL - I'VE GOT TO HAVE SOME

This is a a five pound brick being held up by two grams of Aerogel. This is the lowest density material made today. It is a perfect insulator. Amazingly enough is was developed in 1931. It is created by replacing all the liquid in a substance with a gas. It very expensive but you can buy if you've got to have it.
