I feel guilty for laughing at this but it is funny.

THE IMPORTANCE OF SEATBELTS

I think this is a good video because it emphasizes the importance of wearing a seat belt... even with airbags.

This could be seen on the bathroom wall of the International Space Station during a recent video tour. The new bathroom was recently finished in preparation of a six person crew.

LOOK AT THE DOG

I'm not sure what's going on in this picture but the dog seems to be the only one who will have a good ending.

I THINK THIS IS AN OLD FAR SIDE CARTOON BY LARSON

Sorry for the small print but it reads "Quit complaining and eat it...number one, chicken is good for the flu and two, it's no one we know".

This video is only a minute long. Pay careful attention for things are not what they seem.

SWAT KATS - THE RADICAL SQUADRON

The show was "popular" somewhere between 1993 and 1995. I think it can now mostly be found late at night on the cartoon network (during the adult swim hours). Really, unless you were a fan a long time ago don't start watching it.

NEW CAMOUFLAGE PATTERN

I'm sure this pattern may have some application somewhere... it may also prove to be so distracting to a bad guy that you could subdue him.

THIS IS ONE CRAZY GOOSE

I can only think this guy has trouble with this goose before (why else for the camera). I think he should have held it under water for awhile.

TIME LAPSE SNAILS

Snails never seem to have any direction or purpose when you watch them in real time. This clip provides a different look at a snails travels. We don't see many shelled snails around here but the "naked" ones do the same thing.

JUST IN CASE YOU NEEDED ONE

I watching a news story about the Comic Con in New York and discovered that there is a website that actually sells the same kind of bikini worn by Princes Leia in Star Wars (Return of the Jedi). The website is http://www.leiasmetalbikini.com/members/whatsnew.html .

Here is a group of Leias for your enjoyment.

CPR

I always try to work on someone even when the outcome looks grim. But I think this is one of those times when CPR (or anything else) is not going to help.

DOOR SOUNDS LIKE CHEWBACCA

Turn your sound up for this one. This guy posted a video on Youtube showing a cabinet door that sounds like Chewbacca. It does and I love it.

GRAFFITI HURTS EVERYONE

Be careful where you park your AK AK. Even on the planet Hoth there is always someone who wants to "TAG" your property.

TEAR GAS WORKS

Here we see a demonstration of some well placed CS devices. Probably deployed from a shotgun launcher. As you can see, this is not a place you want to be because (a) it would hurt to get hit with one those canisters and (b) anything coming out of it is not your friend. Tear gas works... sometimes you must be patient but in the end it works.

LIGHTNING STORM FROM ORBIT

I think the description stated that this was a communication between Story Musgrave and Charles Bolden (two really cool astronauts... Bolden may be the next director of NASA but I'm not sure where that stands... although I believe the current director Michael Griffen did a great job... it proves that politics plays a roll in "all" government agencies). Anyway, enjoy the lightning storm as seen from one of the space shuttles.

ROUGH LOOKNIG PLACE TO WORK

When I first saw this I thought of about a dozen science fiction movies. It's actually a steel mill somewhere in Russia. It was apparently taken with a high definition camera which gives it sort of an artistic kind of feel.

SCI FI FANS

I once stayed at a hotel where they were holding a SWAT training convention. Tragically, as fate would have it, a Star Trek convention was just finishing up so the two usually completely separate groups of society had to mix together in the common areas. The funny thing was that the usually aggressive and self confident elite of law enforcement (and they have every right to feel that way because of their training and the real life dangers they face) had no idea how to handle grown men wearing make up and costume so they stayed as far away from them as they could. You can't mess with a man who is willing to wear an Enterprise uniform in public.

MOTION SICK

A few years ago I had the opportunity to fly in an acrobatic bi-plane. It was a mistake I won't make again. Just looking at this picture (not taken by me) makes me feel ill.

THE AMAZING OCTOPUS

This is an amazing bit of video I found on TED. It's basically when a lot of smart people get together and talk about things. There a lot of good topics to hear, but it seems sometimes to lean on the atheist side of thought.

COOL PSYCHO/SOCIAL TEST

Look at the picture below. What is above the woman's head? When scientists showed a similar sketch to people from East Africa, nearly all the participants in the experiment said she was balancing a box or metal can on her head. In a culture containing few angular visual cues, the family is seen sitting under a tree. Westerners, on the other hand, are accustomed to the corners and boxlike shapes of architecture. They are more likely to place the family indoors and to interpret the rectangle above the woman's head as a window through which shrubbery can be seen.

THE PERFECT MOVIE ENDING

The "Deer Hunter" is a great movie, it demonstrates the sacrifices that friends sometimes have to make for each other. It's a little long and kind of drags out at some points it is considered a great piece of work. The last scene takes place in a bar where friends have gathered after a funeral. They start singing "God Bless America"... watch it and let it speak for itself (Res ipsa loquitur... for my EMT friends). If you want to watch the whole movie make sure you have nothing else to do for the day.

'CAPRICORN 1' ON A SMALLER SCALE

Space travel is hard, very hard. We have become so used to seeing people go into space that often we forget just how hard it is. Everything must go right. Thus far there only two countries who have active space programs; the United States and Russia. Other countries have sent astronauts into space but only by hitching rides with those two countries (mostly us). Only one country has been to the moon (us again) and so much could have gone wrong during those trips it was luck lucky they all made it back. I think this video is real. But with computer graphics even fakes can be faked. If you don't know what "Capricorn One" is here is the link to Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capricorn_One

MULTICAM COATING

If you are a freak for MultiCam check out this vendor. They will coat almost anything in MultiCam. Kind of pricey but still neat.

MULTICAM RIFLE GRIP/BIPOD

This looks a cool system for a rifle. It fits on picatinny rails and functions as a grip and a bipod. This would be great if you were operating on a perimeter or behind position of safety (i.e. armored car). Plus, with the multi cam you can't go wrong. But not that it matters, I'm not much of a fan for grips... I prefer to use the magazine housing.

THE ARK

This film is pretty dark and deep. Take the time to watch it... the end will surprise you.

THE BLACK HOLE

I loved this movie. It's a bit dated but just as good. Although I never believed the theory that you could travel through a black hole, if anything it should be called a black sphere and you'd crash into it. True, if you look at one from a distance it may look like a hole but so does the sun and moon, and we know that they are round. But who am I to contradict astronomers. Sorry for the rant... enjoy the clip.

NEW BEN BOVA BOOK

Ben Bova has a new book coming out (it may be out already but I usually have to wait until they publish it paperback). I've read most of his stuff... it's hard science fiction... but makes for an easy read. I'm now reading his book "Mercury"... I think he's running out of planets to write about.

OLD TOYS

I saw some pictures of these the other day and they brought back a lot of memories. Everyone knows of Stretch Armstrong but only the old time Tech Geeks will remember Merlin.

CORN STARCH SPEAKER

I've never tried this but after watching this video I'm going to have give it a shot. Apparently, it's is harder than it looks. This is the same stuff that you can walk on and not sink... but if you stop you will. They had a good demonstration of it on the TV show Time Warp.

HELMET MOUNTS

These are pretty neat helmet mounts that let you put just about anything you may need on your head gear. As mentioned in my earlier post, sometimes you can put too much stuff on your kit. To each is own.

THE NIGHTLY NEWS CONTINUES

O.K. now I'm feeling paranoid. Just yesterday I posted a comment stating that the news affiliates were all together and showed the same starting story and mimicked each other for the whole program (they show the same stories and have commercials at the same time). So I went home tonight and watched. Not only did they not start off with the same report but they seem to mix it up for the entire half hour. I'm sure I'll be right tomorrow!
